FAQ

Your account, your progress

How TetraText keeps your progress, how to take it to a new phone, how to bring back an older account, and how to keep more than one. This is how it works from TetraText 2.1.2.

The basics

Where is my progress kept?

In your TetraText account, on our servers: your scores and ranks, level, coins, power-ups, themes, achievements and Remove ads. Deleting the app or changing phone does not delete it.

Do I need to make an account?

No. If your phone is signed in to Google Play Games (Android) or Game Center (iPhone and iPad), that is your TetraText account. TetraText signs in with it by itself every time it opens. There is nothing to tap and no password to remember.

If the phone is not signed in to either, TetraText plays as a guest on that phone. Sign in to Play Games or Game Center later and your guest progress goes with you.

I was playing as a guest. What happens when I update?

The first time you open TetraText 2.1.2 signed in to Play Games or Game Center, your guest progress becomes that account’s progress by itself. Nothing is lost and nothing is asked.

If that Play Games or Game Center account already has TetraText progress of its own, from another phone, the two are never merged: you keep both. When the guest progress has an email on it, TetraText opens the Play Games or Game Center account, and you can come back to the other one any time with Sign in with email. When it has no email, the phone keeps playing its own progress, so it is never stranded.

Should I add an email?

Yes, if you want to play the same account on both Android and iPhone, or keep an account you might switch away from. Open Settings (the gear on Home) and tap Add email. Once it has one, the row shows the address instead.

An email is never required to play.

A new phone

I got a new phone of the same kind

Sign in to the same Google Play Games account (Android) or Game Center account (iPhone and iPad) on the new phone, install TetraText and open it. Your progress is there.

I’m moving between Android and iPhone

Play Games and Game Center are separate, so an email carries your account across.

  1. On the old phone: Settings (the gear on Home) › Add email.
  2. On the new phone: Settings › Sign in with email, with that email and password.

The new phone’s Play Games or Game Center account now goes with that TetraText account, so from then on it opens by itself.

Can I play on an iPad and an iPhone, or on two Android devices?

Yes. Every device signed in to the same Game Center or Play Games account opens the same TetraText account.

Bringing back an older account

I have an older account I want back

It has an email

Settings › Sign in with email. This phone’s Play Games or Game Center moves to that account, so it is the one that opens from now on.

It was on Play Games or Game Center

Sign in to that Play Games or Game Center account on the phone and open TetraText again.

It had neither

A guest account with no email, on a phone you no longer have, cannot be signed in to. Tell us on Discord what you remember, such as your player name, and we will look.

TetraText opened a new account instead of mine
  1. Check the phone is signed in to the Play Games or Game Center account you played with, then open TetraText again.
  2. If your account has an email: Settings › Sign in with email.
  3. Still not there? Ask us on Discord.

More than one account

Can I keep more than one account?

Yes. TetraText never merges accounts. Each one keeps its own scores, ranks, coins, power-ups, themes and purchases.

Each Google Play Games or Game Center account is its own TetraText account, and an account can also have an email.

How do I switch between my accounts?

By Play Games or Game Center

Switch the account in Play Games (Android) or in the phone’s Settings › Game Center (iPhone and iPad), then open TetraText again. It opens the account that belongs to it.

By email

Settings › Sign in with email. A phone’s Play Games or Game Center belongs to one TetraText account at a time, so it moves with you to the account you sign in to.

Will I lose the account I switch away from?

Switching by Play Games or Game Center leaves each account on its own Play Games or Game Center account, so you can always switch back.

Switching by email takes this phone’s Play Games or Game Center with you, so the account you leave is reached again by its email. If it has progress and no email, TetraText stops you first with Leave this account?. Tap Cancel, add an email to it (Settings › Add email), then switch.

Tip: add an email to every account you want to keep. It is the one way in that works on any phone, Android or iPhone.

Purchases and achievements

Which account do my purchases go to?

Coins, power-ups, themes and Remove ads belong to the TetraText account that bought them, and are there whenever you sign in to it, on any phone. On iPhone and iPad, Restore Purchases in TetraText’s Settings brings back a store purchase that did not arrive.

Why didn’t my achievements show up in Play Games or Game Center?

Achievements go to Play Games or Game Center only from the TetraText account that Play Games or Game Center account belongs to. Playing another account on the same phone, such as one you signed in to by email, does not report to them. Inside TetraText, You › Achievements always shows the account you are playing.

Why doesn’t Google Play’s Sidekick show my TetraText achievements?

Sidekick, the Google Play Games panel that slides over the game on Android, is part of Google Play, not TetraText. It shows achievements for the Google account the Play Store app is signed in to, while TetraText reports them to the Play Games account it plays with. On a phone with more than one Google account the two can differ, and Sidekick then asks you to sign in to Google Play with the account you use for Play Games.

To see them, switch the account in the Play Store app (your picture at the top right) to the same Google account as Play Games. TetraText cannot change which account the Play Store uses.

Sidekick says 14/14 on one account and 27/27 on another. Is that all of them?

No. Until a game earns Google’s achievements badge, Sidekick lists only the achievements you have already unlocked, so “14/14, 100% earned” means 14 unlocked so far. TetraText has 48. You › Achievements in the game shows every one and how close you are. Each account keeps its own progress, so two accounts show different numbers.
